The standard field User in seventhings allows you to assign objects directly to a specific person. This is especially helpful when you're tracking who is responsible for which devices or items. The best part: the assigned person does not have to be a seventhings user with their own account. It's sufficient that they are stored as a Person in the Team menu item.
Prerequisite:
To assign a user to your objects, you must first create them as Person in seventhings. The best way to do this is via our Personio interface, a CSV import or manually.
For optimal use of the user field, we recommend configuring it once if needed. In the menu bar, navigate via Settings to Object fields. You'll find the User field here. Click it using the pencil icon.
Open the user field and configure it as you wish. You determine, among other things, in which field group the field should be displayed in the detail view of your objects. This lets you arrange it logically – for example, under General data or Inventory data. You also set the output format. Three options are available. You can display the email address, the name in the format "First name Last name," or "Last name, First name." Choose the format that is most meaningful for your team. Make any additional settings as needed and finish with Save.
Now switch to the object list and open the detail view of any object. There you'll now see the user field in the field group you configured. Click into the field. A dropdown menu opens and shows you all eligible people. Select the person you want to assign to the object. Alternatively, you can also type in the person's name – seventhings will show you matching suggestions. Confirm with Save.
The desired user isn't displayed? Then you probably still need to create them as a person in seventhings so that they appear in the dropdown. The best way to do this is via our Personio interface, a CSV import or manually.
