The duplication feature is your best assistant when you need to record many similar objects—for instance, if you have received a large shipment of identical office chairs. Instead of tediously creating each asset from scratch, you can simply create a copy of an existing entry and update only the necessary details.
Tip: If you are on the move in the warehouse, you can also duplicate assets directly in the seventhings app—where you even have the option to make multiple copies at once. Find out how it works here: How do I duplicate assets in the app?
To get started, navigate to Assets in the menu bar to open your asset list. Select the item you wish to duplicate. You can access the detailed view by either double-clicking the row or clicking on the small pencil icon.
In the detailed view, you will find three small dots in the top right corner for further options. Click on them and select Duplicate from the dropdown menu.
As soon as you click on Duplicate, the details view for your new, copied inventory item opens immediately. To clearly distinguish the copy from the original, seventhings automatically updates the ‘Scancode’ field for you: first, you’ll see the number of the original inventory item, followed by the suffix ‘(Copy)’. You’ll also see the note ... Copy... at the top, below the image.
You can now take your time to check which details should be transferred and make any necessary adjustments. The scan code is particularly important here: delete the automatic entry, including the note ‘(Copy)’, and enter the new code shown on the corresponding label instead. Finally, confirm your entries by clicking Save.
Tip:
If you haven’t stuck the new label on yet, it’s best to do so straight away when you save, so you don’t lose track of your physical stock.
