Save valuable time when recording assets! Learn how to use the duplication functions to create new assets and add identical items to your system in a flash—whether individually or in bulk.
Tip: If you are on the move in the warehouse, you can also duplicate assets directly in the seventhings app—where you even have the option to make multiple copies at once. Find out how it works here: How do I duplicate assets in the app?
Navigate to Objects in the menu bar to see the list of all of our items. Select the asset you want to duplicate. You can open the detail view by either double-clicking the row or clicking the small pencil icon.
In the detail view, you'll find three small dots in the top-right corner for more options. Click them to open a dropdown menu. Choose between Duplicate and Duplicate multiple times.
Option 1: Duplicate once
Select Duplicate to create one copy. As soon as you click, the detail view for your new copied asset opens right away. To clearly distinguish the copy from the original, seventhings automatically adjusts the Scancode field for you: it starts with the original asset's number, followed by (Copy). You'll also see the note ... Copy ... below the image.
You can now calmly check which data has been carried over and make any changes you need. Pay special attention to the scancode: Delete the auto-generated entry including the "(Copy)" note and enter the new code that's on the corresponding label instead. Finally, confirm your changes by clicking Save.
Option 2: Duplicate multiple assets at once
Select Duplicate multiple times if you want to copy the selected asset several times. A dialog window opens with two important input fields.
In the first field, enter how many times the asset should be duplicated. You can choose between 2 and 100 copies. Enter the desired number.
In the second field, set the scancode for the first duplicated asset. The system will count up sequentially from this number. So if you enter "1000" and create 5 copies, assets with scancodes 1000, 1001, 1002, 1003, and 1004 will be generated automatically.
Important:
If any of these scan codes are already in use on your system, seventhings will display an error message. In this case, please select a different start number that does not cause any conflicts.
Once you've filled in both fields, click Create duplicates. The system creates all copies one after another and assigns the scancodes sequentially.
All duplicated assets appear directly in your asset list and are ready to use right away. For easier searching later, make a note of the label or the new scancodes. You can open individual assets and adjust further details if needed – use the double-click or the pencil icon.
Tip:
If you haven’t stuck the new label on yet, it’s best to do so straight away when you save, so you don’t lose track of your physical stock.
