Would you like to know exactly where your equipment, tools, or furniture are located? With seventhings’ automatic geotracking, you can keep track of your items at all times. With every scan, our app records the precise location of your smartphone or scanner and saves it directly to the asset.

Geotracking is included from the Smart Asset Management licence tier onwards. For lower licence tiers, you can easily purchase this feature as an add-on. Please feel free to get in touch if you’re interested!
First, check your system settings to ensure that seventhings has permission to access your location data. Then, open your seventhings app on your smartphone and scan your asset’s label. The app automatically records your current GPS coordinates in the background. Location tracking works just the same when scanning with an industrial scanner, RFID reader, or even when searching manually in the scan view. After a successful scan, tap Save. This is important, as the app will only transfer the new coordinates to the system if you complete this saving process.
Note:
Please note that the app does not record coordinates when you edit your assets manually via the inventory list.
To view the last recorded location of your assets, open the detailed view for the relevant item in your app. Here, scroll down to the Last scan coordinates field. You will now see the exact position of the last scan displayed on a map. Tap on it to zoom in on the map. seventhings also shows your current location here, so you can more easily estimate the distance to your inventory. If you prefer the satellite view, you can switch the display using the button at the bottom right of the map.
Please note that the accuracy of the signal depends on your surroundings. When scanning an inventory outdoors, the measurement achieves a high level of accuracy of less than seven metres. Inside buildings, location tracking is usually slightly less accurate due to ceilings and walls, and generally achieves an accuracy of around twenty metres.
In addition, the last recorded location of the item is also displayed on a map in the web app’s detailed view.
